Q Students will write a 6+ page paper telling the story of 1-2 people, based on their oral history interviews, while simultaneously exploring one of the key questions of the course. Students may pair up with a partner for this assignment, but the page count minimum will be raised to 9+ pages. Papers must substantively engage with at least two course texts, and draw upon at least one academic source from anthropology, sociology, psychology, or social theory (another work by an author we read in class is acceptable and encouraged). Papers must have a title, introduction, thesis statement, and conclusion, and must use parenthetical citation. +3 extra credit if students submit proof that they brought their paper to the writing center. To understand who you are is to know that you have identity, surprisingly many people do not. The structure in society is to have an hierarchy whether we believe it or not. The main group to have mainstream representation are normally known as the majority. I couldn't help but notice the privileged that one of the interviewees had, and while it is not their fault it shows the systematic, institutionalized bias that many face. One of the oral historic interviews that was observed was the oral interview of Mary Kennedy. She speaks of the time where she was blessed to learn from the best teachers with good intentions.
